“Filmmakers Academy strongly believes in the hands-on model of education. The best way to learn is by doing and immersing yourself in the activity from all aspects.”
Mission
To teach Christian youth how to effectively communicate for the glory of God through the medium of film.
Filmmakers Academy 2012
During the academy, students will complete a group film project under the coaching of our experienced teachers. Students will learn that the secret to professional filmmaking is organization and communication and we will show them how to do it like the professionals. It is going to be an exciting, fun-filled week and we would love for you to be involved.
Like a real film set, students (including the actors) will specialize in one of three departments -
- Production Department
- Camera Department
- Art Department
All students will learn how to break down the script as needed for their department.
The Production Department will include the Director, Producers, AD, 2nd AD, Set PA’s and BTS. (We know that’s a lot of letters, but it essentially means the people who make the decisions and run the show)
The Camera Department will learn how to pre-plan and execute various shots, framing, and angles. The grips will get to work with moving shots using a jib and dolly. We will also have several professional lights they will learn how to set up and use.
The Art Department will search for locations, create costumes, sets, and props, learn what a greensman does and practice set dressings and art continuity while filming.
Teachers in each department will help the students learn how to organize their department like professional film sets through the various forms and papers they use:
- Location forms
- Call sheets
- Sides
- Topdowns
- Storyboards
- Script days
- Shot list
- Signed release
- Cast and Crew Applications
- Audition notes
BTS – while filming, we are also going to have a few students learn about how to market film using Behind The Scenes, websites, photos and logos/slogans.
